Poetry Prize 2022
Poetry Prize 2022 Details
The Blackness on Sea Poetry Prize is a quest to find a poem of genuine literary merit to become a lasting legacy for The Lobster Pot Pub and this delightful Village on the Firth of Forth.

The substantial prize of £1000 and a trophy shield will be awarded for the poem judged to be of most literary merit containing a reference, not necessarily complimentary, to "The Lobster Pot" and "Blackness on Sea" somewhere in the composition.

This is a genuine endeavour to find a lasting work which will pass down the ages and possibly attract some budding Burns or McGonagall.

The Prize is open to all and entries will be viewable on this website.
People may use Pen Name if they wish and the name will be private unless they win.
People may enter as many poems as they wish.
The closing date for entries is the 7th. September.
On the advice of the Poetry Society all entries will remain anonymous on the website.
Remember the poems do not need to be about the Pub or the Village, just a fleeting mention of these to give a point to the competition. (The remit will opened for future years.)
If you are connected to any literary society or similar body and have any suggestions as to how we might promote this inaugural poetry competition we would love to hear from you. We would also welcome input on organizing Poetry Reading Evenings as suggested by many of our followers.

The Runner Up prize of £200 and a Trophy will be awarded to the second choice of the Judging Panel, which will be made up from a panel of four notable people from the arts world and the Licensee.

All rights to the poems will remain with the author but Blackness on Sea Poetry will be allowed to use the works for any advertising, promotion, books, or booklet relating to the prize.

A formal presentation ceremony will take place in October 2022 and if the competition is well subscribed it may become an annual event!
