POEM TITLE Blackness on Sea - A Longing Fae Over the Ocean
POEM
Well i like tae bide a while beside the seaside
Where the weathers oft as foul as it is fair
The clamour of the gulls there does apease me
Blackness on sea in aw ma dreams Im there
As a laddie i skimmed stanes upon yer waters
Built castles oan yer sands wi stick an bone
Dipped toes in yer icy briny currents
And knew without knowing ah wis home
Like many oh my countrymen afore me
I sought fame and fortune in a foreign land
My forefathers left tae work upon the railroads
And like them when I dream it's of yer sands
And noo far away av foond ma fortune
Namely love and music and new friends
And av bairns oh my own accross the ocean
And Blackness on sea I long tae show tae them
I'll show them the woodlands and the castle
Walk the pier and point to Fifeys strands
At the Lobster Pot we'll sit out in the gairden
And they'll run aboot with ice creams in their hands
Theres many things ah miss fae dear auld Alba
No least of aw ma family and friends
But Blackness is high up there amoung them
With it's beatin heart, a cheery pub that mends.
