Poem No. 128

When I was a wee girl we would visit Blackness-on-sea

We had great fun on the beach, a great place for all the family

Then I moved away when I was twenty-one

To live in Jersey another great place with lovely beaches and sun

I'd return to Blackness for a walk along the shore

With my sister I appreciated it even more than before

We would chat for hours and walk for miles come rain, hail or shine

As no matter the weather, Blackness was a favourite place of mine

We would take mum and nana for a trip down to the sea

Spending quality time together, what a special place to be

We walked along to the castle and back to the Hamlet Tea Room

Eating scones, drinking tea and then visiting the cloakroom!

Then 18 years later more fond memories were made

With my nephew Bruce making sandcastles with his bucket and spade

When my nephew Jake from Cramlington came to visit his grandad and gran,

We would visit Blackness Castle as he was a big Harry Potter fan

So many memories created throughout the years of Blackness-on-Sea

And all of them involve different members of my precious family

And only two weeks ago I took my parents for a drive in the car

It was a lovely day and dad didn’t want to go too far

So, we came to Blackness and had dinner at The Lobster Pot

They had fish and chips and really liked it a lot

I had lobster and chips which was very tasty indeed

This little gem of a place has everything you need

To finish off our meal we got some fantastic ice cream

And walked around the building taking in all that we’d seen

So much character, artwork, great service and fab food

We left there and everyone was in a great mood

So next time you may be feeling a little low

Just remember Blackness-on-Sea is a great place to go!
