POEM TITLE Blackness

POEM

Blackness

This is the place they call Blackness on sea where you can come for a walk and pop

in for tea

Steeped in history and some of it bleak

So take a walk through the ages, I’ll give you a peek

This is the place where it began long ago

As a port to serve the Royal burgh of Linlithgow

Where they built a castle named the ship that never sailed

But through her three stone towers the wind often wailed

This is the place that became a garrison fortress

They looked over and protected Scotland’s greatest mistress

Mary-Queen-of-Scots who else could it be

Until she had to escape with her life and flee

This is the place that has seen changes along the way

As it sits proud on the Firth of Forth every day

From the end if the Auld Alliance

To Oliver Cromwell and his armies defiance

This is the place At Blackness on sea

Where today your more likely to see a film crew filming for TV

From the shores of the mudflats and occasional midges

To a stunning view of all three bridges

This is the place the locals call home

So pop in and see us or give us a phone

Take a load off your feet, we sell food cold or hot

It’s the best place in town called The Lobster Pot
