Come Away In
POEM
Come Away In
I dreamt that the firth was caught frozen,
Fish trapped in the curl of the surf;
The crack of the thick tide beneath me,
Marks my steps on the grey, glassy earth.
The dark exhalation of winter,
And blackness surrounding the bay;
The needle-sharp gulls cry above me,
I pull, and their threads guide my way.
To a beacon of pictures and lanterns,
The Lobster Pot, fished from the deep;
A knotted rope cage that surrounds me,
And settles me softly to sleep.
Where I dreamt that the firth was caught frozen,
But the ice had thawed fragile and thin;
From the warm peaceful glow of the tavern,
And the whisper to come away in.
