POEM TITLE

Rejected Shards of a Rainbow

POEM

Rejected Shards of a Rainbow

People forget

Blackness

Has many colours

Hiding

Or snuggling

inside of it

Blackness protects,

Like Mother Earth

Standing

her ground,

Her nails

Clutching soil

So her mountains

Don’t fall into

The Blackness on the Sea.

All one has to do

Is churn

The Lobster Pot.

Slowly,

Twisted,

gnarled,

sightings

That even Nessie

Would be scared of

Will surface

Because people don’t know

What to do with

The ugly,

rejected shards of the rainbow

Blackness is

the one place

Where the colour wheel

Doesn’t spin in any body’s favour

The one place

Where anyone can take refuge

And feel at home

Enough

To breathe

So unless you want

All that’s within

The Blackness

To come out and play

Let things

Resettle

Below the surface

Let that secret

Wait

And bide its time

Sometimes,

one moment

Defines a lifetime

And sometimes

A lifetime can fit

Into a moment

When it folds at the seams

Even nightmares can

Turn to dreams

Because by then

A lifetime would have seen

All the colours of

Mother Nature

And realised

It’s always been colour blind

Eventually

When we close our eyes

Blackness

Is what we’ll find
