Poem No.22

Two In One

Sunbeams are dancing in the Lobster Pot

Sprites from the Black Burn join the melee

chatter and patter flowing free

Eating and drinking glasses are clinking

Fairy lights winking in Blackness on Sea

The River washes the Castle's face

Wraiths float lazily by and gaze

askance as actors ply their trade

Reliving glories of days now done

The web of history endlessly spun

Children at play along the sands

Fairy tales built with grubby hands

Sea-dogs aplenty on this shore line

Their boats rocking to the River's time

while honking geese flap to far away lands

Blackness on Sea a Siren's song

luring all to come along

to be held in thrall for many a year

Only set free by a Mermaid's tear

then fantasy and reality clash together

a frisson of delight a moment to treasure
