Poem no. 225

POEM TITLE

The Pearl that is Blackness on Sea

POEM

On a trip down from the Highlands we took the coast road at our leisure. We came across Blackness on Sea, what a little treasure.

A bustling harbour village with a lot of nautical charm, I stood looking out to Sea, so blue, so very calm.

In the village there's a castle, majestic in its way. Stands proud within the harbour like a ship that never sailed.

We took a walk along the main street to a junction where, we saw the bright yellow paintwork, the Lobster Pot stood there.

Within the pub is treasure, maybe pirates left some there, a collection of nautical pieces like a museum of seaside fayre.

A community shop, all sorts for sale, a lovely menu too. Friendly staff, a place to meet, no doubt sing a shanty ir two.

On carrying on our journey we spoke of all we'd seen. A vibrant little harbour village, we were so glad we'd been.
