POEM TITLE
Parting Glass: Toast to the Lobster Pot, Blackness on Sea
POEM
Ye wouldnae need to be a sot
Tae saunter by the Lobster Pot;
Take a dram and hae a patter
Of one hertie local matter:
The Landlord’s set to roam the gloam
His parting glass will be a poem
That toasts both pub and village, aye
A bonny scheme to say goodbye.
Blackness on Sea’s set on the Forth
The castle’s neukit oe’r the Firth
It’s now the backdrop to a scene
Where Jamie Fraser hit the screen
And weary tourists, feeling frisky
Want to flirt with Nancy Whisky;
Where’s a better place to stop
For produce than the village shop?
To gather memories to savour
Of Blackness’s local flavour?
Although I’m born a Sassenach
Of Scottish blood I have no lack
I swear upon my granny’s life
That family roots are firm in Fife
And if I’m lucky with my pen
I’ll get to slack my drouth again
With a shiny trophy for my shelf
And witness Blackness for myself.
