Poem No. 60

POEM TITLE The Stronghold By The Sea

POEM

Stonewall and torchlight decorum

Of a castle so quiet and still

The sun shies away from the Blackness and Bay

When the thunderclouds roll down the hill

Mother Lightning was poised like a scorpion

And the blinding sting lashed at the reigns

Of the drawbridge and link to a rain dance in sync

Where floodwater is all that remains

But the Overlord Moon took exception

To the scratch of the needle on point

On the record he played for the night music made

No shadowy ink could anoint

He instructed the stars to embrace him

And they made up a suitable mesh

In a lobster pot trap Mother Lightning was snapped

In a timeout at eventide’s crèche.
