Depression Strikes
You’re happy, joyous, in family mood,
the way you always were.
Then you panic, you were only manic,
and suddenly it’s there.
The black mood calls, pervades the spirit
with forbidding thoughts of mortal limit.
Resistance corrodes like acid shield,
summoning the will to yield.
A switch is made and joy is gone.
Depression floods into the mind.
Now it’s total, you’ve lost the fight,
instinct drives you into flight.
The black moods’ grasp grows stronger,
now offering peace like a humane vow.
The self preserving force has flown,
replaced by the wish for oblivion.
Never mind that I will have a pint or two
in the Lobster Pot in Blackness on Sea.
The waves of despair might disappear, as
I drown my sorrows on the Forth of the Firth.
