Poem No. 7

Updated: Mar 19, 2022

Ship to shore

With the bow of a ship and Fortress wall's

And gallows hidden down below

Once a prison and stronghold for ammunition

Well that's how this story will unfold

Supporting Ships and Cargo

Said to be the keepers, of the Crown

Besieged, by Cromwell and his men

Yet a Castle they never brought down

Fortified wall's spanning 5 meters thick

The Castle, rebuilt brick by brick

Housing both weapons and prisoners

A Castle built like the bows of a ship

Damaged, by heavy artillery fire

Cromwell, could hold No more

Now containing French prisoners

Held within the Towers floor

Yet still standing tall and proud today

Within pretty courtyard grounds

Remains our Blackness Castle

For they never brought it down

And on the outskirts of the little village,

A great wee pub beckons there!

People come from all around

With many stories to be shared

One's about the Castle

And One's of it's History !

They're fishing boats and life

And of their time's on land and sea

So if you want to join the Craic

With some historical sights to see

Have good food and a pint of beer

The Lobster Pot's, the place tae be!
